This is the first installment in my Gotham City makeup series where I will be doing an array of makeup tutorials for all of my favorite Batman characters. I decided to go with the Joker first because there is so much freedom when it comes to the actual application of the makeup. Out of all the renditions of the Joker, I was definitely inspired by Heath Ledger’s version the most. He portrays a much more realistic and gritty version and I think that kind of realism adds an undeniable eeriness to the whole character.
I wanted to go with a more deconstructed and run down Joker, so I didn’t focus on being neat by any means. I must admit it was a challenge at first, because most of the time when applying makeup to clients, your focus is to very precise. I hope that I captured the chaotic and unpredictable flare that the Joker has always embodied because he is such an enigmatic creation that I will continue to be enamored by.
