Since the official launch in March Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara has been praised as one of the most stand out beauty products of 2015. The momentum of conversation in the online beauty sphere definitely began to pique my interest. I cannot even begin to illustrate how much money I have spent experimenting with different brands and formulas only to be left disappointed. To paint you a more vivid picture, my lashes are fairly average in length and are not particularly voluminous. Since I’m naturally fair haired I need a mascara to evenly coat my lashes and add some curl and definition. I was skeptical of trying yet another “new” holy grail mascara but after taking the plunge and trying Benefit’s Roller Lash a few times it has easily become my new favorite mascara!
Price: Roller Lash retails for $31.00 CAD and $24.00 USD.
Quantity: A full size mascara is 8.5 g/0.30 oz
Waterproof: Roller Lash is water resistant and smudge proof. It has been one of the only mascara’s that doesn’t transfer under my eyes after a few hours of wear. This is one of the biggest beauty dilemma’s that I have struggled with so it was an easy decision to add Roller Lash into my daily arsenal of go-to products.
Applicator: Normally, I tend to avoid acrylic applicators as I have been disappointed by them in the past but Benefit’s patent-pending hook and roll brush is not your typical, gimmicky spiked torture tool. I love that it hooks on to every lash, separating and coating them with ease. It doesn’t poke or make for an uncomfortable application. If anything I find applying my mascara a much quicker process!
Benefits: In a consumer panel Benefit claims that out of 31 women 97% said it visibly lifted their lashes, 87% said it maintained a long lasting curl and 94% stated it gave their eyes a more wide and open appearance.
On top of these impressive statistics Roller Lash is easily removeable, is infused with provitamin B5 and serine which are known for their lash conditioning benefits as well as a 12-hour curl setting formula to keep your lashes curled and uplifted all day!
Colors: Available in black.
Cruelty Free: No. Benefit does not test their products on animals except where it is sold in countries that require it by law.
What I Like:
Longevity – Whether it be a long day at work or a humid summer day I expect my mascara to last. In my many years of experimentation with cosmetics I have yet to find a mascara that holds curl or is as long wearing as Benefit’s Roller Lash. I have regularly flirted with different brands to find something that does not transfer under my eyes and nothing has come close to the success I’ve had with this multi-functional mascara. I chalk it up to some kind of cosmetic sorcery at this point. Praise the almighty cosmetic gods for this magical beauty gem!
Curl and lift – Long lasting lift, a 12-hour curl setting formula adds an impressive lift that makes even the most accomplished lash curlers envious. Unfortunately, my lashes are quite straight so I need all the help I can get to create any kind of noticeable curl. I used to have to curl my lashes several times before applying mascara and even then it wasn’t guaranteed to hold up throughout the unpredictability of the day. It’s definitely a relief to be able to quickly brush through my lashes and achieve perfect definition without the help of any other products.
Separation – If you’ve ever experienced troublesome, clumpy mascara than you know how frustrating it can be to find one that applies effortlessly without the aid of other products or tools. If you’re looking for a quick, no-fuss formula that you can apply when you’re in a rush or on your way to work in a car (which I have thoroughly tested, believe me!) than trust me when I tell you that Roller Lash is unbeatable in this category. If I want some added oomph, I add my Benefit They’re Real mascara on top for some extra volume.
What I Don’t Like:
Quick Drying – One of the only negative aspects of the Roller Lash mascara is the quick drying time. I like to layer multiple coats of mascara on depending on the day and my desired look. On occasion, the formula will stiffen and clump my lashes together if I wait too long between applications. I usually avoid this by applying several coats on one eye before moving onto the next.
Tips for Use:
- The curve of the wand is designed to coat every single lash. Begin by holding the wand horizontally with the tip of the curve pointing downward.
- Wiggle the wand from the base of your lashes to the tip. Slowly, rotate the tip inward and up so the curve of the wand matches the eye contour, coating every single lash in one continuous motion.
Where to Buy: You can purchase Benefit’s Roller Lash on their official website or at your Sephora location.
