Cake Beauty The Posh Wash Shampoo and The Soft Serve Conditioner

Cake Beauty was founded by Heather Reier in 2003 in her hometown of Kitchener, Ontario. She wanted to create a brand that not only fit her love for a playful and feminine aesthetic, but also provide products that contained naturally sourced ingredients. With a focus on cruelty free and vegan formulas, rich textures and confectionery scents Heather has expanded her line from body care and dry hair products to shampoo and conditioner.

I was first introduced to Cake Beauty a few years ago when I worked at Sephora and tried out their infamous dry shampoo. I instantly fell in love with the natural volume it created, as well as the sugary, sweet scent. I happened to come across the new Posh Wash shampoo and Soft Serve conditioner while in Shoppers Drug Mart and decided to give them both a try. They were on sale for $9.99 each and I was in the market for a more affordable, cruelty free shampoo and conditioner. I have been using them for the last few weeks and was impressed at how they transformed my normally dry and course hair. If you want to know more about this phenomenal duo, read on!

What I Like:

Scent – Some people have stated in other online reviews that the scent is a little overbearing, but I quite enjoy it. Both the shampoo and conditioner have a simultaneous sweet and tangy formula that reminds me of a creamy, coconut infused pina colada. If you’re sensitive to scents, you may want to forego these particular products but they do have a few products in their line that are scent free!

Hydration and Shine – My hair is naturally curly and also quite dry and course no matter the season. I used to religiously use the L’Oreal Professionnel Vitamino Color shampoo and hair mask and while I found them efficient, they did not hydrate my hair as much as I would have liked. After washing my hair with the Posh Wash shampoo and Soft Serve conditioner for the first time, I noticed it was extremely shiny and soft to the touch, and a lot less frizzy. This was without the use of any other hair products and nothing else in my routine had changed. I even found my ends were a lot more tame and that the moisture and shine remained even after using a blow dryer and flat iron.

Oil Absorbing – With a moringa seed micro-protein and apple vinegar the Posh Wash shampoo helps to polish hair and scalp while helping to fend off dirt and environmental pollutantsI have noticed since using both the shampoo and conditioner, I have to wash my hair less which is a definite plus given how long it takes to dry and straighten my hair.

Price – Both products retail for $12.99 CAD and $8.99 USD which I think is an absolute steal considering the effect they have had on my hair. I am prone to buying higher end hair products with a heftier price tag because it’s usually so unmanageable, so this just goes to show that sometimes the lower priced item does not reflect on the quality.

Cruelty-free and Vegan – I was happy to find hair products that are not only affordable and effective, but also cruelty free and vegan. Sometimes, vegan and cruelty free formulas can be considered specialty items which are harder to find or can be more expensive. So, it’s refreshing to know that I can pick these products up online or at my local drug store without having to break the bank.

Cake Beauty Shampoo and Conditioner Review

What I don’t Like:

A small complaint I have is the size of the bottles. I have extremely long hair that reaches my lower back, so of course I am prone to using more product than most. While a little goes a long way, I feel like I will go through a bottle rather quickly. The lower price certainly does make up for this!
