OCC Spring 2013 Sci-Fi Lullabies Collection Promo Image

Product: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Sci Fi Lullabies 2013 Spring Collection.

Price:  $18.00 USD for o.33 oz

Packaging: Acrylic squeeze tube with screw top applicator that allows for controlled application. The labels have also been updated and are now printed directly on the tube instead of a sticker. I find this allows for less wear on the labels and keeps the font from fading!

Color descriptions:

  • PrisMetallic pale beige rose – This is quite pale and more sheer than the rest so you may want to apply it on top of another lip color as as a highlight or layer it for a more opaque finish.
  • LovecraftIridescent pink/Lilac metallic – This is a wonderfully vivid shade of pink. It needs very little layering to provide an incredibly rich pay off. It reminds me of Anime with a high-shine shimmer and a tint of lilac.
  • BattyBlack metallic with silver iridescence –  Batty is a little more on sheer side as well but when it’s paired with a black lip liner, its a perfect fit for your inner rock goddess.
  • ZhoraPale peach with a gold/red metallic duochrome – One of the most unique lip tars of the bunch, Zhora has a fantastic pinkish red duo-chrome quality to it that definitely embodies the flashiness of 80s glamour!
  • AnnikaAmplified neutral peach – I think this would be a lovely opaque peachy coral for summer. It’s one of my favourites, simply because it is so complementary for us fair skin and red haired gals.
  • ClockworkRich Terracotta with a bold orange undertone – Another fantastic opaque lip tar that would ideally accent golden eyes and bronzed skin. It certainly packs a vivid punch of color!

What I like:

  • Theme: You can imagine my excitement when I found out that the latest collection was inspired by the principal characters of Blade Runner as well as other  sci-fi icons such as the Annika  (Seven of Nine’s character from Star Trek Voyager) and of course, Clockwork Orange! I have been a long time fan of the sci-fi aesthetic and I think that OCC has captured the ethereal beauty that surrounds the science fiction genre perfectly. Each and every lip tar either has a beautiful duo-chrome color or metallic finish that instantly adds a bit of mystery and futuristic glamour to the entire collection.
  • Moisture: OCC is a 100% Vegan, cruelty free company that incorporates Vitamin E, Hemp oil and peppermint oil in their lip products. I like that they include natural, hydrating ingredients because I have always had issues with certain lipsticks drying out my lips. I’m happy to report that when wearing any of the lip tars, my lips remain smooth and moisturized all day and night.
  • Diversity: I love products that are multi-purpose because I feel I get far more use for my money. I especially admire the fact that OCC has incorporated a variety of finishes in this collection which allows for endless innovation.

What I don’t like:

I find the lip tars still accentuate any dryness or flaws on your lips. My suggestion is to make sure you keep your lips moisturized and exfoliate before use to ensure the best application possible. The other thing that might come as a surprise to some of you is the increase in price. I still think it’s reasonable considering the longevity of the lip tars, but it may be a bit of a disappointment to some so I thought I would mention it as a potential negative attribute.

Tips for application:

  • Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub to remove any excess dryness.

  • Moisturize your lips with a lip balm and allow it to absorb before applying.

  • Blot off any excess moisture.

  • To prevent any feathering, use a similar color lip liner and fill in your entire lips.

  • Next, use a tapered lip brush to apply the lip tar for a more precise and clean application.

  • Conceal around your lips with a flat edged brush and set with powder.
